The Living Spirit of Brave

By Andrea Goeglein

Every so often I encounter a person who is a example of a living spirit — a person who is living what it means to be brave.  In those moments, I get to experience exactly what I am trying to live and teach.  Nothing clarifies a purpose more than seeing what it looks like when it all comes together.

Such an encounter happened a few months back as I sat at a Sunday morning service.  A community member, Maria Anderson, took the stage for a few minutes to share her life story.  Maria began by saying, “Twenty-eight years of my life were spent in shackles of the worst kind, the ones you can’t see from the outside.”

I immediately knew I was going to like this woman!  By the end of her short talk I knew I was seeing an example of LivingTheSpirit.Today.  I invite you to read Maria’s story and see for yourself why I was so inspired by her spirit that day.

Did she shift her perspective? Did she have one heck of a lot of experiences?  Did she stop making excuses?  Did she begin to teach?   Is she brave?  You read her short story and decide for yourself.

One of the biggest take-aways for me from her story is how one person, at one moment, showed up in her life and began to help Maria shift everything.  There had been many other people before who had helped to shore Maria up along her very, very crooked road of success.  Yet it was one person, at one moment, that embodied all the others who came before, that seemed to shift everything.

Dr. Success Challenge:  Look back on your crooked road of success.  Do you have one person whose presence in your life shifted everything?

I want to stop here.  I really want you to read Maria’s story.  It is not very long, but hopefully you will see the same spirit I did and be as inspired as I was to continue to overcome all daily annoyances!
